Improve your serve through fitness and tactics
Feb 23, 2023
There are 3 main factors that determine shot quality.
1. Technique: Movement of the punch. In theory, there are certain patterns that are considered optimal. Many top players have this in common. However, there are also exceptions, such as Daniil Medvedev.
2. Tactics: How to best apply your punches. The understanding of how to specifically attack the opponent's weaknesses, ideally with your own strengths. E.g. kick serve into the one-handed backhand
3.Fitness: Endurance, strength, speed, coordination and much more. When most people think of fitness in tennis, they think of being able to play a long rally in the third set. However, fitness is more than just endurance. How quickly can you get to a stop ball, how much strength do your legs have, how quickly can I accelerate my arm, etc.
These 3 are the equivalent building blocks of your hitting quality, even Roger Federer didn't have a magical 4th building block. If all three are mature in harmony, then you can exploit your maximum potential.
All of these skills are trainable! One of the skills is subject to a dilemma: technique training.
In order to train the technique, you often need a trainer. Someone who has the local expertise to be able to analyze the smallest details of your shot. It is relatively difficult to work on technology alone.
You can also work on tactics and fitness without anyone standing right next to you. To do this, I wrote two e-books for you. You can find the e-books here.
