Second title and the end of the indoor season!
Mar 31, 2023
March is the last month in the ATP's Challenger tournament calendar in which mainly indoor games are played. The indoor season so far has gone very well, and March should also be successful. In Pau I was able to reach the quarter-finals together with Denys Molchanov, then we went to Lugano.
As mentioned in the February review, I have been playing with Constantin Frantzen since the Challenger in Lugano. We had already played together in January, when we were able to reach the semi-finals twice in Oieras. Things continued perfectly in Lugano, we weren't broken once until the final and were able to collect 2 valuable ranking points in a strong Challenger. In the final we were unfortunately narrowly defeated by 75-26 against Zizou Bergs and David Pel.
After the first tournament-free week of the year, we went straight back to Switzerland for the Challenger 100 in Biel. In Biel we were already behind set and break in the first round and were even able to fend off several break points to a double break. We were able to turn the game around and found a good rhythm from the quarter-finals onwards.
With very strong performances we reached the final on Saturday. Constantin had reached several finals to date, but had yet to win any. Just like for me before the title in Koblenz. In the final we showed one of the best performances of the year and Constantin played extremely well. His first title on the Challenger Tour was well deserved, and it was a very cool feeling to share this moment with him, and of course very cool to win my personal second title.
With the victory in Biel the indoor season is over, starting this week Constantin and I will be attacking at the Challenger in Sanremo. Sandy socks and long rallies, gotta love it
Until the next update
With sporty regards,
Hendrik
