The serve is the most important stroke in tennis
Jan 9, 2023
Whether you've been playing tennis for many years or just a few months, you've heard it before. Even people who have only seen tennis on TV a few times have heard it before. We can't really say who said it first or where the statement came from. But the fact is:
The serve is the most important shot in tennis!
But why?
Because it is supposedly the hardest blow? No.
Because it's the quickest shot you can hit? No.
Because you can only beat aces with the serve? No.
Because it is the beat with which every point begins? Almost, but no.
It is the most important shot in tennis,
because it is the only shot where the player has full control over the shot and the game.
With every other punch, we are exposed to the quality of our opponent's punch in a certain way and react.
Only when we serve does the ball stand still, or rather, only when we serve do we have the ball in our hands. You can serve with slice, kick, flat or even from below.
Through clever service, the server can directly dominate the point and control the game.
A powerful and well-placed serve is difficult to return and gives the server the chance to score straight away with the next shot or even force an opponent's error directly through the serve. The higher the level of a tennis player, the less likely he or she will lose the serve game.
It's not just about the speed of the serve either! Let's assume that our opponent has problems with high balls on his one-handed backhand, with a kick serve we can repeatedly attack him on this weakness and collect easy points. In the long run this frustrates your opponent and you defeat him mainly through the stress caused by our good serve.
Unfortunately, we can never take wind, sun and our fitness out of the equation, but otherwise nothing stands in our way when we serve. So there is no excuse not to be a good server. If you want to serve faster, more placed and more cleverly, and thus leave your opponents on the pitch without a chance, then stay tuned because in this blog and in the ebooks I will give you all the information to achieve this goal as quickly as possible.
With sporty regards,
Hendrik
